| Structural Steel Fitter SummaryPOSITION: Structural Steel FitterPOSITION SUMMARY:Read and interpret structural steel and bridge blueprints and detail drawings in order to determine fit-up sequence and welding requirements. Layout and fit structural steel components into columns, beams, trusses, girders and misc complex components together by tack welding all components in place and mark with proper weld symbols for welding. Check final fit-up of components to ensure all components are fit up according to detail drawings and customer requirements. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: | Learn and follow all safety regulations and procedures | | | Study detail drawings to determine material requirements and fitting sequence | | | Read and comprehend Structural Steel detail prints, section views, multiple prints, weld symbols, and bills of material | | | Set up and operate fabricating equipment such as torches, line burners, mag drills and grinders, to cut, drill, or otherwise fit and assemble steel components | | | Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and specifications, using jigs, cutting torches, fixtures, and hand tools ie.. Measuring tape, square, tri-square, level chalk line etc... | | | Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers | | | Move parts into position, manually or by using tools, hoists or cranes | | | Perform related tasks such as flame cutting, arc gouging, and grinding | | | May repair products by dismantling straightening, re-shaping, and re-assembling parts, using cutting torch, rose bud torch and hand tools | | | Maintain time, production and quality records to identify and minimize defects and re-work. Take immediate corrective action as appropriate. Identify, recommend and drive continuous improvement initiatives | | | Work continuously to improve in all areas of operation | | | Must be team player | | | Take initiative to complete work | | | Fitter quiz required |
