POSITION: Industrial Painter

POSITION SUMMARY:

Examine painting in process with wet film gauge as well as finished components with dry film gauge and other processes as required to ensure all painted components meet MSS standards and contract specifications. Read prints to determine requirements of structural steel components. Prepare paint and painting pumps. Spray steel pieces using industrial equipment with protective industrial steel coatings such as primers, zinc, and epoxys. Clean paint equipment as needed. Examine defective equipment to determine cause of malfunction and report need for machine repairs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Learn and follow all safety regulations and procedures
Must be skilled and knowledgeable regarding industrial steel preparation and coatings
Cleans surface of work piece in preparation for coating, using solvent, wire wheel, scraper, or blasting
Selects and mixes ingredients to prepare coating substance according to specifications, using paddle or mechanical mixer
Turns dial, handwheel, valve or switch to control and adjust temperature, speed, and flow of product or machine
Fills paint pot, reservoir, trough, or pan with material used to coat, paint, or spray, using airless or conventional spray gun
Measures and mixes specified quantities of substances to create coatings, paints, or sprays
Transfers completed item or product from paint area, drying or storage area, using crane or forklift
Cleans and maintains tools, equipment and work area, using solvent, water, brushes, and cleaning aids
Determine paint flow, viscosity, and coating quality by performing visual inspections, or by using viscometers
Perform test runs to ensure that equipment is set up properly
Cover surfaces with drop cloths or masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting
Apply primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces, such as bare metal, for finish coats
Confer with supervisory personnel or management, to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, quality issues, and painting problems
Inspect and review fabrication to monitor compliance with safety policies, contract specs, and fabrication standards
Inspects materials, products, and equipment to proactively detect defects and malfunctions and report to supervisor and maintenance
Monitors and patrols work area to ensure continuous improvement through 5S, total productive maintenance, lean activities and enforce all safety regulations and policies
Work closely with supervisor, leadman and employees to minimize handling, re-work, and defects
Must be dependable, responsible and fulfill obligations
Must have ability to paint 1-3 coat paint systems as required
Must have ability to read prints for masking
EDUCATION: High School Diploma
EXPERIENCE: Two years minimum related experience
EMPLOYMENT STATUS:Full-time - Hourly
